MICRO4ASIA Project Advances Micro-Credential Development Through a Hands-on Workshop and an Annual Meeting in Dubrovnik

Partners from 6 countries – Vietnam, Laos, Italy, Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Croatia – met between 24 and 28 November at the University of Dubrovnik to strengthen cooperation on the development, quality assurance, and recognition of micro-credentials in Vietnam and Laos, as a part of a Erasmus+ project MICRO4ASIA. The gathering combined a capacity-building workshop with the project’s First Annual Consortium Meeting.

Hosted by the University of Dubrovnik and co-organised with Masaryk University, the workshop guided academic staff through key aspects of micro-credential design: aligning learning outcomes with EU frameworks, estimating workload transparently, integrating assessment into institutional quality-assurance systems, and preparing implementation plans. Participants from partner institutions worked in mixed teams to refine their micro-credential drafts and explore solutions to common challenges in administration, recognition, and communication with the official state bodies.

The workshop concluded with partner presentations of revised micro-credentials and feedback from their European colleagues. These outputs will contribute directly to the preparation of the project’s Capacity-Building Toolkit and upcoming activities.

Our goal is to help partner institutions develop micro-credentials that are transparent, trustworthy, and internationally comparable,” said Nebojša Stojčić, the Rector of the University of Dubrovnik. “The workshop demonstrated how shared expertise and hands-on collaboration can accelerate progress for all partners involved.”

Following the workshop, the consortium gathered for its First Annual Meeting, reviewing progress across all work packages, including micro-credential development (WP3), recognition mechanisms (WP4), and quality-assurance activities (WP5). Partners set priorities for 2026, focusing on piloting with learners, advancing the regional recognition framework, strengthening communication and dissemination activities, and preparing for on-site workshops in Laos and Vietnam. The MICRO4ASIA consortium will continue working toward a sustainable and compatible micro-credential system to support lifelong learning and labour-market needs in Southeast Asia.
